Loading BeerXML Recipes

The BeerXML format is used in both amateur and professional brewing and makes it easier to exchange brewing data over the Internet.
BeerXML is a free, fully defined XML data description intended for exchanging brewing recipes and other brewing data.
The ability to import recipes into Samovar lets you take a ready-made beer recipe and, with suitable equipment, repeat an experienced brewer's success in "two clicks".

Samovar 7.00: besides BeerXML, recipe files of the BrewMate program (in windows-1251 encoding) are accepted. If the file contains several recipes, a "Recipe in file:" («Рецепт в файле:») list appears for choosing the one you need.

Beer recipes from the site
In "Beer" («Пиво») mode, the "Beer recipes from the site" («Рецепты пива с сайта») card is shown at the top of this page: the samovar-tool.ru recipe catalog right from the web interface, without saving a file to your computer. The same card has the "Load recipe" («Загрузить рецепт») button for a file from your computer.

There are three recipe sources: "Main" («Основные») (the site's general catalog), "User" («Пользовательские») (recipes of other users) and "Mine" («Мои») (your own recipes; for this list a Blynk token must be set in the device settings, otherwise the message "No Blynk token is set in the device for the "Mine" list." («Для списка «Мои» в устройстве не задан токен Blynk.») is shown). There is a search by name and a filter by beer family, and the recipe list is paged.

Choosing a recipe in the list loads it right away on the same page, under the card, just like when loading a file. Under the recipe name, "Source: …" («Источник: …») is shown; when loading a file from your computer this line is hidden.

Recipe source («Источник рецептов»)

"Main" («Основные») is the site's general catalog, "User" («Пользовательские») is recipes of other users, "Mine" («Мои») is your own recipes (a Blynk token set in the device settings is required).

2

Search and filter («Поиск и фильтр»)

Search by name and filter by beer family (IPA, "Porter and stout" («Портер и стаут»), "Lager and pilsner" («Лагер и пилс») and others).

3

Recipe list («Список рецептов»)

Clicking a recipe loads it on the same page, under the card, just like when loading a file.

4

Load recipe («Загрузить рецепт»)

Loading a BeerXML or BrewMate file from your computer.

5

Paged list («Постраничный список»)

Switching the list pages with the "Back" («Назад») / "Forward" («Вперёд») buttons.

Loading a recipe from a file on your computer
Let's look at importing a recipe from the site www.brewmate.ru
Having chosen the recipe you are interested in on the site, save it to a specific place on your computer, on the "Program" («Программа») tab press "Load recipe from XML" («Загрузить рецепт из XML») (or the button of the "Recipes" («Рецепты») tab), and on the page that opens, in the "Beer recipes from the site" card, press "Load recipe".
File Explorer will open.
Go to the folder and choose the saved file to load. Samovar will load the recipe and show the main recipe data under the card. The example is based on the "Vienna" («Венское») beer recipe.

Load recipe («Загрузить рецепт»)

A button in the "Beer recipes from the site" («Рецепты пива с сайта») card: choose a BeerXML or BrewMate file on your computer.

2

Recipe description («Описание рецепта»)

Variety, style, volumes, boil time, fermentation temperature and time, OG/FG/IBU/ABV and other data from the file.

3

Ingredients («Ингредиенты»)

Malt, hops (with the addition time), yeast and other additives.

4

Temperature rests («Температурные паузы»)

Mashing steps from the recipe: name, type, temperature, time, water volume.

5

Hints («Подсказки»)

The brewing order from the settings and explanations of the "Wait" («Ожидание») lines for Infusion/Decoction steps.

6

Set program («Установить программу»)

Write the generated program to Samovar's memory.

7

Home («На главную»)

Return to the main page without saving the program.

Note. You can ignore the "Not in recipe" («Нет в рецепте») messages, since the absence of this data  is of little importance for the mashing program. Description lines that are absent from the file are hidden; only "Variety" («Сорт»), "Fermentation temperature" («Температура брожения») and "Fermentation time" («Время брожения») are always shown.

The mashing program is built from the recipe:
The program can have no more than 20 lines in total. If the file is damaged or has no mashing steps, an error message is shown ("The recipe file is damaged or not in BeerXML/BrewMate format: …" («Файл рецепта повреждён или не в формате BeerXML/BrewMate: …»), "the recipe has no mashing steps" («в рецепте нет шагов затирания»)).

Next, press "Set program" («Установить программу») (the message "Program saved." («Программа сохранена.») will appear) and the brewing program will appear in the "Program" («Программа») window. The "Home" («На главную») button returns to the main page without saving the program.

You can adjust the program as you see fit and to suit the equipment you use. The mashing program will also appear in the text field.

2

Mashing program description («Описание программы затирки»)

A reminder for the program, up to 250 bytes.

3

4

Save program («Сохранить программу»)

Save the program and description to the programbackup.txt file.

In the "Mashing program description" («Описание программы затирки») text field you can enter a description  of the program's features as a reminder (up to 250 bytes); it is sent to the cloud at the start of the brewing session.

After all the changes are made, the program must be set in Samovar.
To do this, press "Set program" («Установить программу») at the bottom of the page, and you can start brewing the mash.
With the "Save program" («Сохранить программу») command, a text file of your mashing program and its description named programbackup.txt will be saved to your browser's Downloads folder.
