Selecting and configuring temperature sensors
Samovar works with DS18B20 digital sensors. Each sensor has its own unique address, an identifier. For Samovar to read values from the right sensor, you must select it in the "Sensor address" («Адрес датчика») drop-down menu. There are five mounting places in total: steam before the dephlegmator, column section, water, boiler and TCA (atmospheric vent tube). Samovar finds up to six sensors on the bus.
Warning.
If a sensor is assigned in the settings but its data stops arriving while heating is on, Samovar will regularly show a message such as "Steam temperature sensor error!" («Ошибка датчика температуры пара!») on the main screen, whether the sensor is used in the process or only for information. These messages are not shown while heating is off.
Rescanning the sensors is possible only when no process is running (heating is off).
Settings → Temperature: steam sensor before the dephlegmator («Настройки → Температура: датчик пара перед дефлегматором»)
 Sensor address («Адрес датчика»)
Select the address of the required sensor from the drop-down menu. The list contains the sensors found during scanning and the NONE item (no sensor is installed at this place).

 Correction («Корректировка»)
The sensor readings can be corrected. You can set both positive and negative values. The correction is added to the raw sensor reading. If pressure correction is enabled on the Main («Основные») tab, a correction for atmospheric pressure is additionally added to all sensors except the water sensor.
|
 Setpoint excursion («Вылет за уставку»)
Applied in the "Rectification" («Ректификация») mode while running the Pre-flooding and Hearts program lines. When Samovar finishes heads take-off and moves to the hearts take-off program line, it remembers the Steam and Column section temperatures. If the actual sensor temperature deviates from the recorded one by the set value, Samovar pauses take-off, shows the message "Pause by steam T" («Пауза по Т пара») and waits until the temperature returns within the set limit. The value 0 disables control by this sensor. Warning. It is possible to cancel pausing take-off when temperatures go beyond the setpoint. See the section "Hearts take-off".
|
 Take-off delay («Задержка отбора»)
The time, in seconds, after which the take-off pump is paused when the temperature goes beyond the setpoint. When this time has passed, Samovar checks the temperature: if it has returned within the limit, take-off continues with the message "Resuming take-off after automatic pause" («Продолжаем отбор после автоматической паузы»); if not, the delay countdown starts again.
|
Setting up the column section sensor is the same as setting up the steam sensor.
Note.
You can set new Steam and Column section temperature values at any moment with the "Fix hearts take-off T" («Зафиксировать Т отбора тела») button in the "Regulator" («Регулятор») block on the main page.
Setting up the water sensor is similar to the previous ones, but with a significant difference.
Settings → Temperature: water sensor («Настройки → Температура: датчик воды»)
Water sensor setpoint («Уставка датчика воды»)
The Water sensor setpoint field takes the actual value that the cooling supply pump must maintain. You can change it at any moment while Samovar is running. If you leave 0, Samovar uses 48°C. If a bypass valve is used instead of a pump, the valve opens when the setpoint is exceeded by 1°C and closes when the temperature drops 1°C below the setpoint. After heating is turned off, the water supply is closed when the water temperature falls 20°C below the setpoint (not earlier than after 3 minutes) or when the boiler cools down.
|
 Trigger delay («Задержка срабатывания»)
Not used in current versions. Delay = 0
|
Setting up the
boiler sensor is similar to the previous ones, but it also has its own specifics.
Settings → Temperature: boiler sensor («Настройки → Температура: датчик в кубе»)
The boiler sensor is used to end the process by temperature (
"Rectification, distillation and BK up to boiler temperature" («Ректификация, дистилляция и БК до температуры в кубе»)), to monitor the plateau in distillation and BK (wash column), and to hold the temperature in Beer, Sous-vide and Cheesemaking modes. In Beer and Cheesemaking modes, the
Boiler sensor setpoint excursion («Вылет за уставку датчика в кубе») field sets the temperature tolerance of the program line: from 0.3° to 3°; a value below 0.3° (including 0) is treated as 0.3°; see
Mashing program and
Cheesemaking program. The excursion of any other sensor works the same way if that sensor is selected in the program line; for the steam and column section sensors this is the same value that applies during hearts take-off in Rectification. The
Trigger delay («Задержка срабатывания») field is not used in the current version: the value is saved, but no mode reads it.
Note.
The settings on the Temperature («Температура») tab are the same for all modes. The reading corrections and sensor addresses do not switch together with the operating mode.
Settings → Temperature: TCA sensor («Настройки → Температура: датчик в ТСА»)
 TCA sensor setpoint («Уставка датчика в ТСА»)
The default setpoint is 43°C; if you leave 0, Samovar uses 43°C. In Rectification mode the hot TCA threshold equals the setpoint but cannot be lower than 45°C. In Distillation and NBK modes the setpoint itself is used, without the 45°C lower limit. With heating on and the TCA temperature above this threshold, Samovar shows a high TCA temperature warning once per episode. The next warning is allowed after the TCA cools 2°C below the threshold. When the same threshold is exceeded, the cooling pump increases the water supply if the TCA is hotter than the water and the cooling valve is open. The emergency threshold does not depend on the setpoint: when the TCA temperature is at or above MAX_ACP_TEMP (75°C by default), Samovar turns heating off. For example, with a setpoint of 47°C the warning and, if the conditions above are met, the pump boost are triggered above 47°C; after cooling below 45°C the warning is allowed again; at 75°C and above heating is shut off as an emergency.

 Trigger delay («Задержка срабатывания»)
Not used in current versions.
|
 Scan sensors («Сканировать датчики»)
After you press the button, Samovar polls the bus again and determines which sensors are present or absent, after which the settings page reloads with a fresh list of addresses. You can connect and disconnect temperature sensors "hot", without restarting Samovar. But scanning is performed only while heating is off: if a process is running, Samovar answers with the message "Sensor scan rejected: process is active." («Сканирование датчиков отклонено: процесс активен.»)
|
You can connect sensors one at a time and save them in the settings. Connect one sensor, press "Scan sensors" («Сканировать датчики»), choose what it belongs to, press "Save" («Сохранить»), go back to the settings, connect another sensor, scan, choose its location, press "Save", and so on.
The main thing is to save the settings after every sensor you add and assign a location to.
To save the selected settings, press "Save"; to leave without saving, press "To main page" («На главную»). If the form has unsaved changes, Samovar asks for confirmation before you leave the page. When a sensor address is changed, its previous readings are reset and collected again.
Warning.
The sensor address at each mounting place must be unique. Make sure the sensor addresses do not repeat when you choose them. This is necessary for Samovar to work normally. However, using one identifier at several addresses at once is not prohibited.
The settings for setpoints, excursions, temperature correction and so on do not move together with the sensor identifier; they belong to a specific mounting place.
Note.
The absence of a temperature sensor is not a problem if it was absent when the process started (even if its address is specified in the settings). If a sensor drops out during the process, Samovar will report it.
