Peristaltic pump motor setup.
One parameter is set for the pump: the number of stepper motor steps needed to take off 1 ml.
Settings → Pump («Настройки → Насос»)
 Number of stepper motor steps
Motor steps per 1 ml of take-off. Filled in manually or from the calibration result.
|
 Pump calibration
Opens the "Stepper motor calibration" («Калибровка шагового двигателя») window.
|
You can enter this parameter manually, or calibrate the pump: take off 100 ml, Samovar counts the motor steps made to take off 100 ml, divides that number by 100, and the value appears in the "Number of stepper motor steps: _____ /ml." («Количество шагов шагового двигателя: _____ /мл.») line.
Samovar 7.00: if an external pump is connected to Samovar over the I2C bus (an
I2CStepper module), a second block appears on the tab: the "Use I2C pump above the pasteurization section" («Использовать I2C-насос над ЦП») switch and its capacity in l/h. If there is no I2C pump, the block is hidden. The steps per milliliter for the I2C pump are stored in the board's own memory (Settings («Настройки») → I2CStepper, the "Steps/ml" («Шагов/мл») field) and are calibrated with the "External pump calibration" («Калибровка внешнего насоса») button on the I2CStepper page.
Pump calibration
You can calibrate during a real distillation run, but before the "Start take-off" («Начать отбор») command of the program.
After the message "Stabilization complete, the column is running stably." («Стабилизация завершена, колонна работает стабильно.») wait about 30-40 minutes, direct the pump output into a measuring container and press the "Pump calibration" («Калибровка насоса») button.
The following window opens: "Stepper motor calibration" («Калибровка шагового двигателя»)
Stepper motor calibration («Калибровка шагового двигателя»)
 Motor speed
Optimal speed of the NEMA17 motor, steps per second (from 1 to 8000).
|
 Steps per 100 ml.
The number of steps needed to take off 100 ml, obtained after calibration. You can correct the value manually and press "Save" («Сохранить») (the number must be a multiple of 100). The "To settings" («К настройкам») button returns to the settings page.
|
Press "Start calibration" («Начать калибровку»). The pump starts. The button label changes to "Capture 100 ml" («Зафиксировать 100 мл»). When 100 ml has been taken off, press the "Capture 100 ml" button. Samovar calculates and remembers the number of steps needed to take off 1 ml. The result is saved to the settings immediately, and the obtained value appears in the "Steps per 100 ml" («Шагов на 100 мл») field.
During calibration the status line of the main page shows "Calibration" («Калибровка»). When calibration ends, Samovar returns to the "Self-circulation" («Работа на себя») state.
Then you can start your take-off program with the "Start take-off" command and continue the distillation in the standard way.
Warning.
You cannot calibrate while the take-off program is running.
Or calibrate without a distillation run.
Arrange a liquid supply to the pump inlet in a volume of more than 100 ml. It is recommended to use spirit, low wines or heads from previous runs.
Warning.
The number of steps needed to take off 1 ml is written to the samovarbackup.txt file when you save settings, but it is not loaded when settings are restored. It is not overwritten either. This is intentional.
If you need to restore the previous value manually, find the "StepperStepMl" parameter in the samovarbackup.txt file; after the colon, in quotes, is the number of steps. Enter it in the "Number of stepper motor steps: _____ /ml." («Количество шагов шагового двигателя: _____ /мл.») field on the Settings («Настройки») -> Pump («Насос») tab (the first screenshot).
Tip.
If you have installed an encoder, you can adjust the stepper motor speed with the encoder during calibration, and when 100 ml is reached, pressing the encoder finishes the calibration.
Important.
It is highly advisable to lubricate the pump tube and rollers with neutral silicone grease from time to time. The grease affects not only the durability of the pump parts but also the accuracy of take-off.
