Local logs and charts

Local viewing

Samovar keeps a temperature log and stores it in its own memory. For each mode, logging starts on a certain condition:

Rectification - when the "Start take-off" («Начать отбор») command is given.
Distillation - on the "Turn heating on" («Включить нагрев») command.

Beer - when the first line of the brewing program starts.

Wash column (BK) - on the "Turn heating on" command.

NBK and Cheesemaking - when the program starts.

In all modes logging ends on the "Turn heating off" («Отключить нагрев») or "Reset process" («Сбросить процесс») command

If the heating was switched off during one run and the process was then resumed, the log starts to be recorded anew each time, by the conditions listed above.

Samovar 7.00: the log interval is not configurable - a line is written once every 4 seconds. The "Log data recording" («Запись данных в лог») field has been removed from the Settings - Other tab. If less than 16 KB of free memory is left, Samovar deletes the old log data_old.csv by itself.

The local chart viewing window looks like this:

Local chart
1

Chart

The temperature scale is on the left, the pressure scale on the right. The lower value of the temperature scale is taken from the minimum value of any sensor.

2

Section handles

The left and right handles set the displayed section. Double-click on the bar - the whole chart.

3

Status line

How many points are loaded and a control hint.

4

Legend

Clicking a series hides or shows it.

The chart is drawn by the firmware without external libraries. On the left is the temperature scale, on the right the pressure scale; the program line number is shown as a separate series. Below the chart is a status line: "Points loaded: N. The sliders under the chart set the section, double-click on the bar - the whole chart, legend - on/off, hover - values." («Загружено точек: N. Ползунки под графиком задают участок, двойной щелчок по полосе - весь график, легенда - вкл/выкл, наведение - значения.»)
Samovar 7.00: while the chart is open, marks of pauses and waits may appear next to the numeric series. These are separate messages of the current run that the page keeps in memory; they are not lines of data.csv or data_old.csv. If both the start and the end of one reason were received, the interval, the duration and the outcome are shown; if only one part was received, it is an incomplete event with no invented duration. Missed messages or a reboot of Samovar can leave the history incomplete or clear it.
A mark is placed on the time axis only when the time is reliable. If there is no time or the Samovar clock has jumped noticeably, the information about the reason and the duration stays in the status line, but no interval is drawn on the chart. Older program line marks and pause events remain separate observations, not intervals.

Legend

You can turn off any series by clicking its legend entry. For example, if you click "Pressure" («Давление»), the pressure series is not displayed. Clicking again shows it again. Sensors hidden on the main page are hidden here as well.

Chart section

Under the chart there is a bar with two handles. By dragging the left and right handles you can choose any level of detail you need for analysis. A click on the bar shifts the selected section, a double-click returns the chart to its original view. The handles can also be moved with the keyboard arrows.

When you hover the cursor over the chart, a vertical line appears with the exact values of all series at the cursor position.

While you are viewing it, the chart is automatically extended with new points no more often than once every 15 seconds, but this update can be turned off by clearing the "Update chart" («Обновлять график») checkbox in the window below.

The "Status" («Статус») window under the chart
1

Update chart («Обновлять график»)

Clear the checkbox so the chart is not extended with new points.

2

Save log («Сохранить лог»)

Download the current log data.csv.

3

Save old log («Сохранить старый лог»)

Download the previous log data_old.csv.

Turning off the chart update

Turning off the update makes it more comfortable to view and analyze the chart. Writing the log to the file does not stop. If you check the box again, all events that happened in the meantime are shown on the chart.

Attention!
The chart is built on your computer; if you work with a large log, this can take a considerable time. If Samovar is busy, the log download is retried automatically.

On the same page (in the second window) there is a "Save log" («Сохранить лог») button. When you press it, at the end of the process the current log is saved to your computer, into the "Downloads" folder of your browser. The file name is data.csv .

If a new log has already started recording, you can still download the previous one by pressing the "Save old log" («Сохранить старый лог») button. The file name is data_old.csv

Even if you have only switched Samovar on but have not started heating or take-off, two logs are available for saving: the latest one (data.csv) and the previous one (data_old.csv).

When the process starts under the condition, the new log replaces the old one.

Example.
If during a run the heating was switched off five times and the process was resumed, and the log start conditions were met each time, then locally you can view only the chart built from the data of the last log. The previous log can only be downloaded as the data file data_old.csv. The first three logs are no longer available locally.
But in the cloud all five logs are saved and five charts can be viewed. Moreover, in the cloud they can be merged into one log, and one chart is then built. You can also download the separate or the merged log to your computer.

Later you can view the chart on your computer using the chartlocal.htm page, which is located in the Samovar folder - tools
